A rendezvous is a place where people meet at an agreed time and place. It's a french term based on rendezvous (present yourselves)!

It is pronounced as if you were saying /Ron - day - voo/, It's part of the theme for this year's Festival of Books.

The South Dakota Literacy Council will hold their annual conference October 2nd and 3rd in Deadwood, SD. Our conference will be held in conjunction with the SD Humanities Council's Festival of Books, which is an exciting opportunity to learn more about how books are written, listen to many authors, and attend book signings.

In order to save money we have arranged to stay at the Super 8 motel in Spearfish. We have reserved several rooms, at a cost of just $56.25/night (including tax). Breakfast will be provided by the motel. They have a beautiful pool, so bring your swim suit. Please send an email to me if you plan to stay there, and I will send you more information and a confirmation number. Each person will need to pay for their own room with either cash or a credit card, because they do not accept checks.

The SDLC conference registration fee of $70.00 will cover your annual dues, dinner on Friday evening at the Pizza Ranch (which is known for its buffet), and lunch on Saturday at our "homeroom" in Deadwood during the SDLC annual meeting. Any remaining amount of the registration fee will help with program expenses throughout the year and scholarships to help some of our members with travel expenses. We hope that local councils will provide financial support for some of their member's travel expenses!

The initial event on our schedule is a 5 PM Termesphere* Tour on Friday evening, followed by dinner, a brief board meeting, and then special events for new readers, that are being planned by Poncho Torres. You will receive a conference flyer in the mail by early next week with more details. Students, tutors, family members and friends are all invited to join us.
